The Role of Food in Fighting Inflammation
Did you know that foods contain components that can potentially cause or prevent inflammation in your body and that inflammation doesn’t only contribute to joint pain, but other chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and autoimmune diseases? Learn how a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods can help bring inflammation under control and reduce pain, when used as a significant adjunct to medical treatment.

Healthy Holiday Eating
Gorging yourself on favorite holiday foods doesn’t have to spell disaster. LCP’s registered dietician Marianne Fisher will show you how to avoid weight gain and still enjoy the feast by lightening up on favorite holiday foods. Develop strategies for resisting overeating in social situations, and don’t let holiday foods get the best of you.

Cholesterol and Glucose Screenings
(18 years and older)
Each of the following tests lasts about 10 minutes: total cholesterol and blood sugar ($12); your HDL, total cholesterol, blood sugar, HDL level and risk ratio for heart disease ($18); or your lipid profile, which includes triglycerides, total cholesterol, blood sugar, HDL, LDL, BLDL and risk ratio ($36). The screening requires a 12-hour fast prior to testing. Pay with cash or checks made out to Wellness Services.

Bone Density Screenings
(20 years and older)
Bone density screenings are recommended for anyone concerned about bone health and for people whose risk factors include gender, age, body size, hormone levels, family history, medications and disease. Akron General Medical Center’s Wellness Services will perform the test for $10. You may pay with cash or with checks made out to Wellness Services.
